    Hi everyone,

I have just moved into an old house and brought some lovely solid oak plank flooring for the lounge.

The problem is it’s a concrete subfloor with no insulation, so although I could just glue the wood directly onto the concrete, I’m looking at ways to put a small bit of insulation in there. Don’t have enough height for adding joists and rigid insulation, should have just gone for engineered wood that I could float on an underlay but oh well!

Do any options spring to mind? There are some self adhesive 3mm underlays with a peel away that the manufacturers say is suitable for hardwood and offer insulation of 0.088m2

Or in the kitchen I have used Kilma thermal tile backing boards below the tiles, they are glued onto the concrete and then tiles glued directly onto them, I presume the wooden planks coukd also be glued onto them but can’t find anything online

or I just give up and accept no insulation or try and return the hardwood in favour of engineered

    thanks for any advice!

First thing you need to be doing is a check on the floor for moisture levels then id be putting a liquid dpm down...

Uniboards 4mm or multi top boards 4mm, same product different name 1200x600 boards, adhere with ms adhesive to the sub floor, will also act as a decoupling layer

In a old house in would suggest you return that solid oak and get some engineered if you want insulation. The concrete needs to be dry and strong for solid oak to be bonded to it.
