I'm about to recarpet and cannot decide which underlay to go for. Carpetright & TAPI have suggested Cloud 9 Cummulus 11m at a whopping £18 per sqm but my local carpet shop have offered COSI at 10mm £6 per sqm and advised that the 1mm difference will not even be noticeable. They've also said COSI and Cloud 9 are as good as each other. I saw on another thread someone being advised to go for Cloud 9 9mm over COSI 10mm. Im really confused please which one is most hard wearing? the current one I've got came with the house and is over 20yrs old fitter said it would have been the most expensive during its time (don't know what its called) but the carpet is flat, no dips anywhere, fantastic support and cushioning but the carpet is wool and faded now so we want to change it all. Please advise.

£18m2 for cumulus that’s stupidly expensive, honestly neither are great for the money and anything over 9mm will either require plying out the gripper to raise their height or use more expensive Geordie gripper that’s already taller than standard, personally I would recommend Tredaire Ambience if you don’t want to have more expense with the gripper or Tredaire Sensation if you do, both underlay are miles better than what you’ve been shown and won’t cost anywhere near £18m2 c

Thanks for your post. What is the difference between the Tedaire Ambience and the cumulus v COSI? can you give a rough idea price per sqm?

That sounds reasonable. Can you explain what exactly is better about the Tredaire v COSI?

The density is better for the money. That’s why we use Tredaire and dropped cloud 9.

Have you tried the floorwise diamond xl9? It's about the same price as their standard diamond gripper, being thicker you get 20% less in a box ,but that still makes it affordable to use as standard

Stopped using cloud 9,because of the amount of big hard lumps in it, now using carpenters and Tredaire soft walk
