Hi I am hoping to get some professional advice here. I had my new 80/20 Wilton woven carpet installed on Axfelt underlay a week ago. I have noticed areas unflat already (the landing, under staircase, stairs, towards the edge of a room), and multiple 'scratch' marks (suspect these are damaged made by inadequate use of the knee kicking tool), and one area seemed to be cut a bit smaller and the carpet is overly streched. The carpet store said they can restrech the carpet, use glues in the area under the staircase (as it is hard to reach), and somehow fix the scratch marks (no detailed explanations have been provided). Could you please advice: 1. is restreching/refitting sufficient to fix the issues, and will it damage the carpet/impact its lifespan? 2. do I need to replace grippers - I paid for new ones throughout as i was told reusing the existing ones may not achieve the best outcome. 3. are these marks sign of permanent damage of the carpet, and repair (assume just brushing the fiber off to make it less visible) going to damage it even more? 4. the area that cut a little small - could it be fixed (I know carpet can be stretched, i have a feeling the fitter has tried to stretch to cover the problem but it becomes more obvious now). I have attached some photos... really appreciate your help and advice in this very stressful moment.
Yikes. That bit under the stairs is shocking. They may be able to flatten it out with glue. The landing looks like its been folded and creased. Not ideal for a woven. The stairs look a little full. Need trimming net or the sides need creasing. The scratches are caused by the stretcher being set wrong or slipping on the carpet. They should be able to nap it or hoover it to improve it. Tell him to clean his stretcher out!!
Thank you so much! Do you know whether the crease and folded mark could be eased off over time, please? (I have another one where the stairs starts and very visible - annoys me a lot!). Also for the areas being cut off a little smaller - could it be fixed by re-stretching it, please? Is re-stretching ok to do - I mean, will it damage the carpet, please?
Its ok to stretch, its easier on the length than the width on woven. The creases will take some work to get out and if left wont drop out for a long time.
thank you so much @merit ! Honestly this is so so helpful and made a huge difference in this very stressful moment. One more question: I am also thinking about the worst scenario… if I need to have the damage inspected independently, does it have to be a woolsafe registered inspector, please? Or is there any other qualification also acceptable, please? Thank you again
I wouldnt of thought so. Independent inspectors tend to specialise in each floorcovering. Carpet..wood…vinly etc
Sorry to keep on asking questions… I noted some ‘folding’ marks on the side of the stairs (almost on every stair and usually towards the end, also not the exact shape and size) and a mark on a flat surface where the carpet starts. Would you mind advising what may have caused them, please? Could these be made better if the carpet is refit, please?
pic 3762 looks like pole mark -not a fault, should come out with vacuming and a bit of time. pic 3760/3758 look like bolster marks - not a fault which should come out with rubbing of the pile etc. If these don't improve with vacuming/brushing the pile, speak to the supplier.
