Hi, I'm thinking of fitting a seagrass carpet in my staircase, but I'm not sure it's suitable. Has anybody got any experiance of doing it? Should you use an underlay? Is it best to glue it to the underlay? (I suspect staples will look a bit odd...)? icon_rolleyes.gif Greatful for any input. icon_smile.gif
seagrass is a specialist job. There really is no way you could fit yourself due to the tools needed. By the time you have purchased the correct tools you may as well of imployed a proper installer.
I'm no expert as I have never fitted seagrass on stairs but I do believe that the underlay would be stuck to the stairs and then the seagrass is stuck to the underlay.... Defo a job for the professional!!!!
also sea grass should be fitted across the stairs rather than down like a carpet. If you lay it down the stairs it is slippery and therefoe dangerous. It should also be fixed under the nose
SEAGRASS SHOULD NEVER BE FITTED ON STAIRS,ITS TOO SLIPPY,FIT IT THEN SOMEONE FALLS YOU COULD FIND YOURSELF IN ALL SORTS OF TROUBLE.
What's the materials your stairs are made of? Sheet materials (MDF) or real wood? If real wood, have a look at 100% sisal stair mats here: http://www.mamut.net/controls/shop/shop ... ke&gid=119
with all naturals it's well worth using stair nosings to prevent slipping and protect the break on the step.
I would agree with this in commercial installataions, but in domestic i wouldn,t think that would be necessary, as i said in a previous post seagrass must be laid across the stair to prevent slipping, then there is no problem
Thats helpful mate, ive never thought about laying it across the stairs! When ive fitted sisal on stairs ive always grippered the sides of the tred and turned the sides on the riser, is that not right?
i fix it under the riser and use short pin in the normal stair position ,with a smaller gap and fully adhere into the durafit, but i don,t gripper the sides, although that could make life easier ,regards Alan
Sisal/seagrass/coir, Ive never seen courses for these products, do they exist? theres an oppertunity for some1 there if not. 1 shop I use to work for would stick it out the first day and go back and fit the next. Ive always fitted the same day and havent had any problems, dont do the stuff very often though
you have to let it acilmatise for a. fwe days prior to fitting, rooms should be loapped up the wall about 3inches,stair peices can be laid on top of the room peice. Matt would be the person to ask if their is a course though, but i dont fit much of it know though
