If I overlay an ashpalt sub-floor in my kitchen with 6mm plywood drilled and pluged at 300mm centres {100 x 1" screws per 8`x 4` sheeet of plywood am I creating future problems - Will screws `pop` out due to foot traffic? Will plywood warp and twist? Will drilling ashalpt cause damp problems {as ashalpt is a Damp proof membrane} My intensions are to fit sheet vinyl cushion floor as a floorcovering over this. Incidently, selflevelling flooring compound appears to expensive and would take a lot to reach 6mm height. Appreciate contributions from Building Surveyors and Floorlayers
It seems no one has replied to this post.From my point of view why would you think that using ply is cheaper than the safer way of screeding the floor?.Also what size is the floor area?.
whats the reason for needing to raise the floor by 6mm? You should never drill into ashphete if its acting as a dpm. Also the screw centers should be at 150mm in the center and 100mm around the outside of the boards.
I don't think a 6mm coat of latex would be much different to plying cost wise - the ply is going to be labour intensive and will always be a potential problem, as long as the correct primer and latex are used than you've got a fail safe subfloor, so that's what i'd do.
