anyone else sick of seeing these stuck on staircases

All because they can't make the staircase out of proper timber and build them correctly we have to battle away with stairs made out of plywood and that fall apart as soon as a stick of gripper even gets close to them ..

have you tried to fixgrip these thangs et?.You have probably realised that they are nailed and not screwed together. What happens when something goes wrong ie staples work loose.Where do the regulations between both sides decide who is to blame?,i guess its the carpet fitter because he/she should have read the notice that failed to say whether the stair case is fit and safe in the first place.

blade the blame always ends with us,
whatever way we fix the gripper is deemed wrong , wether you staple/glue/screw/nail or did all 4 ..

But like you say, you have the chance of the staples comming loose or the adhesive not securing the gripper, and if a foot hits the riser it knocks all the plasture off the back of the staircase and exposes all the plasture board nails ..

I think if they can't manufacture the stairs correctly in the first place they shouldn't be expecting us to try and solve there problem, soon it's going to get to a point where i start refusing to do staircases just because i can't secure the gripper well enough, or the stairs are falling apart before i have even got a carpet near them .. :(

It makes me laugh when a staircase thats is designed to last a lifetime and longer for overweight(possibly ! )human beings to tramp up and down on all day cannot handle getting a few 20mm nails chapped into them.

Having said that it isn't all that more time consuming to either screw the gripper in or use the maestri, although i do admit it is a pain in the arse ! ;)

    Cheers

Remember that the risers are pee thin so the plot thickens with this thread im afraid with regards to fixing unless we sort it ourselves.Probably a cost cutting exercise over the years.

Its still ridiculous bearing in mind what stairs are used for that you cant nail the gripper on for fear of breaking them !! :?

If im being perfectly honest i dont think that they are safe enough for us to be responsible at installing carpets on them.

Maybe if we start putting stickers on the carpet and saying you can't walk on it in an aggressive manner

    This is no joke........

I had to send back a wood venetian blind to the manufacturer last week because it had worn out in just over a year. The response I received from them was "your customer has been puling the blind up and down haven't they !".

Things not doing what they are supposed to do............. gets right on my nerves !

I ordered a kitchen blind for my own house and they never centralised the pattern. To make it worse the pattern on the pelmit/top bit was different to the blind.

Im on the 3rd blind now and the pattern is still out by about 1". I have given up sending it back.

I dont sell an awful lot of blinds but when i do sell them its the most profitable, easy money that i make. However mistakes by the manufacturers or should I say certain manufacturers are common, you often dont find faults until you are fitting (same as flooring !) and its a pain to have to make a second trip to the job - it wipes out the profit.

it does annoy you when you see these stickers. The stairs are only nailed together, my brother in law is a joiner and always glues and screws his staircases together and they are perfect

The odd site does do the staircase properly ... was at one today ( davidsons ) they tend to do all there staircases properly, yet they still put those stickers on the stairs ...

Not sure if i'm allowed to say who i think has the worst , but there name begins with B and ends in S ... i'm not sure if half of them are even nailed and just glued together with the riser been made from ply board ... :( some are made with mdf but very few :|

thats a load of barratts i presume.MDF so that you cannot nail into them i gather.I fitted on their sites a few years ago and what a sight.Thru-lounge then realised that the fireplace wasnt fixed to the wall on one side by about half an inch.It got snagged so i white siliconed it it got OKd what a set of cowboys including me lol.Maybe the gripper should be preset in the joiners shop with nuts and bolts to fix.10year builders guarantee you must be joking. So whats the fair way tEWE Stairway?.
