What are the preferred methods for fitting safety floor these days. in the past I was always taught to template and this has been my choice ( having spent almost 2 years working with traditional lino in the past)). I have also scribed but only freehanded a couple of times.

    Opinions or experiences appreciated.

    Regards

    Ray

If I have the TIME and SPACE I would template, but mostly working in areas of limited space so normally heat it up and hook it in.

The job i have just compelted (always templated before ) was the first time I have tried free-handing polysafe. I found that if i softened it enough i could use my speedcat to crease it, unorthodox maybe but it worked for me

I noticed a lot of you lads say you heat up polysafe to make it easier to cut.

I just cut this stuff straight in with no heat with no problems

I know we all do things differently tho ;)

I think after my recent polysafe job, warming it up took it to about just above freezing ! there was snow blowing thorugh the main entrance door even when it was closed !

Seriously, i wasn't happy about hooking it in but a lack of space and time gave me no option - i would certainly do it that way again though. You make a good point aswell though, heat it too much and it goes too soft, there was a fine line between to warm and not warm enough !. Trial and error i guess.

    cheers

    Ahem...manufacturer's recommendations?
Don't remember reading anything in their blurb about laying it in subzero conditions.

You wouldn't catch me doing that.
    Well not often anyway.

It was certainly sub-zero outside, a little bit (not alot) warmer inside even with heating on ! (old draughty building protected by being listed !)
