Talking to a couple of Karndean fitters over the past week and they are saying that Pressure Sensitive adhesive is one thing that they DO NOT use anymore for LVTs!.They are using HT because of the problems associated with PS allowing the product to shrink and gap.Any thoughts on this.I have mentioned about F46 being ok to use but its a case of if it goes wrong the guarantee is nulled.I think that Karndean/Amtico would turn a blind eye to the admittance of their faulty goods.Having said that i have a lad on a job today(his choice to work on sunday) and using F46 and set out the field on friday in a bath and kitchen and today fill in the edges to complete the job.
Hi mate. I cant see how using HT adhesive can be any benefit to anyone,as it goes off to quick!,ok use it in HT areas but thats about it. I have been using F46 for years now on karndean/amtico products and not had one problem yet. How many of you use epoxy resin adhesive in wet areas/bathroom etc? bet its not many. I think its more to do with the salesman and whether or not they can evaluate a job,and then the fitter being able to apply the job to a correct method. Hippyfitter
Surely you should be using karndean's PS adhesive? If you did have any shrinkage issues that would be their first get out wouldn't it? Mind you karndean won't back you up anyway, a mate of mine supplied and laid karndean for a customer with their adhesive, had a problem with it (not sure what the problem was), they asked him what size notch he'd used, when he said 1.5mm they said "should've used a 1.6mm" and that was that.
i dont like HT. Sets to fast . Also 1 job that has moved a bit on me was on HT! (own house) I have never had a issue with F46. Even on a job where the underfloor heating was set up wround and was running well into the 30c's Im possitive that the problems people are having with karndean etc shrinking is down to the product being to warm when they installed it. How many of you check subfloor temp and product temp before you install? If the product is warmer than the subfloor then its going to try and shrink. I recommend one of these for £15 quid! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Non-Contact-IR-In ... 4ced7f064f
So do karndean say F46 is ok to use then? Wouldn't they insist on using their own adhesives to honour their guarantee?
You have to use karndeans products to keep there guarrranty. However, good luck in claiming for a fault with karndean. The only real fault that you can claim for is delamination. Surface wear is normally down to poor mantanence Shrinkage will normally be down to heat Adhesive failing will normally be down to moister or contaminate Only really leave delamination and i have only seen that happen once. Also can be caused by using a concave blade so if its a cut that delaminates then your not covered there either. If you belive that any of the above are a product fault then YOU will have to prove this by sending off the product for outside house testing or having someone like Sid Bourne do an independant report for you. If you complaint was against wear for instance and Sid Bourne did the report and found there was F46 used it would not affect the report as the report is for wear problem etc and not adhesive failer unless the adhesive has caused the floor to wear? However if it was adhesive failer then you would be stuffed as its not a recommened product.
iv never had a prob with ht the uder floor heating as to be swiched off 48 hours before and 48 after and bring it up to temp slowly and you have to put it in wet and roll every hour for 3 hours treat it like epoxy but dryes quicker
If problems are arising as frequently as they seem to be doing then the principle has to be to make sure that the vinyl is colder than the subfloor when installing or similar.
