Hi guys I'm new to the forum. Basically I have been in the flooring game about twelve years mostly domestic carpet and vinyl and commercial carpet and carpet/rubber tiles and I have done a small amount of safty flooring about 6 years ago. Anyway I keep getting asked to do safety floor jobs mostly small one I have been supplying materials and doing most of the prep work and getting another fitter to lay vinyl etc, well he has packed in I'm thinking of buying a welder and doing some practice ony welding and maybe even going on a course to brush up my skills. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Like I said it's mainly all jobs that other folk don't want to do. Cheers hairylayer
Hi Simon and welcome  Would you be fitting mainly straight lay vinyl? if so i would not bother with any course as you will pick it up pretty fast. Just take your time and do plenty of test welds on various heat settings. I normally do my straight welds on a heat setting of around 5. If you do any cap/cove jobs it would be good to follow a fitter around on a couple of jobs just to get the hang of things. If your a capable fitter mate there's no reason why you cant fit polysafe Hippyfitter
Thanks for the help guys now to get a welder and practice my welding looking forward to it, will make a change to the normal work. Hippy fitter what course would you recomend?
If you speak to matt when he gets back from his holls,he will point you in the right direction for courses
Hi there just to introduce myself I am Rugrat and we stock fitting kits for welding or if you just want build the tools up we will do individual tools. You can click on our links www.carpetfittersshoponline.co.uk and take a look there is also a discount code in the members section. regards Rugrat
hi mate all the courses are fine but its experience that will stand you in good stead. keep at it cos theres money in it and theres a market for safety flooring especially in capped and coved commercial kitchens and bathroom/wetrooms.
