been out today and measured 5 jobs only to be told i have 4 of them giving me 2 weeks work but they all said roughly the same about how cheap i was compared to others, is there anywhere that gives guides of hour rates or make up prices on material
Hi mate when I first started I got the wife to call around local firms for prices. I never price on the job I always measure up then work it all out after. Hope this helps
Being too cheap compared with others could give the impression you're a "cowboy" and will carry out dodgy work. As hairlayer said, you can ask around for what others charge but you don't know their specific situation: are they flooded with work (so price higher) or low in work (so price lower), how many do they employ etc etc. What would be a normal day rate you would be happy to take home to cover all your costs and save for not only the slow times but for (re)investment in tools etc? Also, do you supply the materials and take a (small) profit on this too or does the client supply the materials?
