Not sure what you mean. Do know that builders hardly ever never use protection over recently installed wooden floors!!!
I dont know, had the stuff given to me a few years ago. Think its called floorprotect or simular. Got a sticky backed one for carpet
But how about when you finished the floor with an oil that needs curing for a further 10 days? Dry enough to walk on, but getting sticky etc when covered too soon? Builders always seem to be in a hurry, always getting the logistics wrong and always running out of time. And who gets the blame when a floor gets dirty, damaged?
done that, only to find that builders (decorators and plumbers) can't be bothered about other peoples work and when it's in their way they just remove it. Best builder we worked with taped of all doors going in to the area where the floor was been installed and only removed it after the 10 days were over. Now that's great communication and respecting each other.
Not much you can do if other trades remove teh protector, you have doen your best to protect the flooring. Take pictures also !
I remember one that did! I installed and finished the timber floor, then the builders put paper on it and carried on working. When they had finished I went back and re-sanded/sealed , it cost them much more than the hardboard and tape I advised them to cover it with.
I like that!!!!!! but it does not help me gauge the value to fitter. would they want protectors. there are two main types one for capet one for hard flooring but also fire retardent products. Maybe this is more usful to builders.
seriously though Rugrat, i think they are a good idea, like the other guys say especially when builders are around!!!
if there's other trades going in on a floor i've finished I advise laying corex (not sure thats spelt correctly) its basically corrugated 3-4mm plastic 8' x 4' sheets. Its cheaper than the other option as Lambchop knows!!
Nope its not breathable..... but it provides excellent protection.... so i just drill loads of holes in it, 4-5mm diameter, approx 100mm centres.
I agree it is a good idea to put this down but will fitters pay £40 - £48 per 100m x 600mm roll or will they take the attitude that its down to the home owner to look after what they have now got.
Not many will. Some fitters wont replace £2 quid worth of gripper let alone stick down £2 quid of protector. When we use protector its built into the price of the job and normally specified to be used.
On the other hand we don't display the attitude the home owner to look after it, no matter what. If it's all arranged by the builder, the builder should look after it if he fails to keep his schedule and insist of having the floor installed before other things (decorating, plastering etc) are finished. Domestic clients are completely different and do most of the time understand way better why a wooden floor (specially one finished on site) needs to be the last one on the list to do.
