This is geared towards the shop owners on here,so the question is this..."Do you feel that it is beneficial to hold flooring stock in-house or just sell from showcases enabling the next day off-the-shelf delivering.Pros and cons please.

we dont hold stock (apart from rugs).

The problem with 'roll' stock is our customers like a wide choice and they tend to pop into carpet right etc for something of a roll they can take away the same day.

We used to have roll stock but you can get stuck with it and end up selling off a cost.

i think it all depends on if you want to be a 'cheap' take home today sort of place or a shop that offers a quality service that the customers know they need to wait a couple of weeks to get exactly what they want.

The firm i sub-contract to has roll stock, beige or similar twists. Most carpets though are available really quick, so there is,nt the need to stock too much.

Bit difficult to "roll-out" wooden floors ;-)

We don't keep stock, just large sample boards (and the odd half pack of Oak 5-finger mosaic). We do stock finish & fitting materials, plenty of maintenance products and tools too. (Since using our new webshop, especially F.Ball B91 and flat beading seems to be flying out of the shop).

Are you anywhere near HEATHROW?,if so then maybe you could get plains in your shop, because at least they will be flying out.
