Not sure if this is one of your jokes?

Did he let you on site without a cscs card?

whent to a site once, one that was partly occupied by the houseowners.
any how stopped at the entrence to ask "where is site number xxx", guy in the hard hat said where is you high viz and your boots, i said i don't have any, the hard hat said that he couldn't let me on the site (meanwhile a woman is waving frantically at me), i said ok then you go and tell that woman over there that she wou'nt have her carpet today.
    he let me in

so if the site is partly occupied do the residents have to suit-up every time they leave their front door?

I remember having a 2 hour long induction and safety talk while working at mayday hospital croydon only to be told after the only way to get rolls of altro in was up on a hoist with us on aswell to steady the vinyl then over sloping roof through a window they took out  foreman wasn't happy when we got in van and left site, only to return next morning to find the labours had taken all 14 rolls up that way for us, some people really are as stupid / crazy as they look

If the section of a site you are working in is passed of as safe to the public then you dont need a site induction or cscs or any safety equipment.

However, if the section of site your working in is still construction and not signed off your will need cscs/nvq etc.

As long as the section you was working in was signed off to the public then there is no issue.

However if it was not then the site chap could loose his job for letting you on site.

We all think it is a joke, but to be fair it serious. H+S is taking over the world and for a good reason- "safety" !

I agree that it is totally OTT but most of it makes sence. Not all of us are clued up and know what to do if there was a life or death accident on a site, what if there was a fire on site and YOU knew the exit points but the young lad in your care did not know? For all you know he may take the wrong door and corner himself in a room with no exits.

look at it this way, and i would like a reply of you all to this! . Lets say a close family member of yours comes to work with you (on site) to help you out.

You ask them to go to the van and get some gripper, they walk outside and take the easest route to your van, what they dont realise is 10 ton of bricks is being lifted above, the straps fail and teh bricks come down on top!

Now this does happen, the reason why we have H+S is because of this.

If you had taken your H+s test or NVQ you would cover dangerous, The accident should never of happened !

The biggest problem is- we presume that because we would not do that , that others wont do it also. Sadly this is not the case.

I do think its good to do cscs and risk assesments but every job seems to be to a different standard. It all gets a bit confusing. Ive been on sites where they dont seem to care and Ive been in offices that take an hour to get started. Shouldnt it all be the same??

every site is different so will take a different amount of time to do a site induction.

however, some sites do take the pee. But at the end of the day, if there was a accident the site forman could be in alot of trouble if he did not cover the issues with you.

on other sites people just dont care untill the day something happens and someone ends up loosing there job or maybe even spending some time behind bars.
