What would you say was the typical straight stair runner carpet width? And what size of stair rod would be used with it? Thanks

Really depends on the size of the stairs I would of thought.

Not my department but I wouldn't have thought any hard and fast rules. The wider the stair the bigger the border.

I think it was 27 inch on a normal size staircase and the rods out inch and a half each side? I just cut them to what ever size they want normally

Spoke with shop owner this morning he said customers choice, standard is 27 inches. Although it does depend on width of stairs so he said by rule of thumb 4 to 5 inches in away from stair stringers.

I,d agree, you have to have a reasonable gap between the carpet edge and the stringer, otherwise it doesn,t look right imo

27 inch is definitely the standard size, however you can have them made up in any width you wish. most stair rod suppliers supply at 28.5 inch such as http://www.quality-stair-rods.co.uk. You can buy wider stair rods too usually at 36" for domestic properties. Pre made runner are usually made to fit either at 27 inch or 34.5 inch

    Hope that helps
