Does anyone know any info about recycling uplifted flooring, waste, roll ends etc Was thinking it would be good if my local supplier where I go had a place for this.
This definatly needs to be sorted out, It does my head in paying to dispose of all the waste when it could be recycled. The household waste site near me have carpet and underlay recycling but I cant use that obviously. Ive emailed carpet recycling companies before, dont even get a reply. I think they are more interested in dealing with manufacturers. A few years ago I tried to recycle 800 m2 underlay and carpet I was uplifting but no 1 wanted to know as it had adhesive on the backing. I think polyflor and interface do a take back scheme on new orders now but havent looked into it myself.
This totally does my head in. I usually leave the rubbish with the customer , but they often hint that me taking it away could be a deal breaker. I end up bagging it up and taking it to the local tip in my car.....what a pain in the arse! How much does it cost to have one of those big wheelie bins, you know, like they have out the back of restaurants?.....anyone know?
Altro and polyflor have gone in with a recycling company I think it's Recofloor or something like that, anyway they will drop off a one ton bag at major distributers or contractors and charge them a fiver per lift. They only want new offcuts though. In the states about 3>4 years back the wholesalers would pay the fitters for the new and used underlay, no carpet, they had cages and cages of them. We're always the last to catch on, but then you need the infrastructure to cope with it aswell.
Yeah and what about all those millions of left over rolls of weld rod sittin in warehouse and shops all over the world, its about time someone done a return on these, I mean come on how easy would it be for someone to drive around all day collecting up all these left over rolls of weld and return them for re-manufacturing. The last company I worked for had a clear out every 2 years and we would dump in a skip all the left over weld which would half fill the skip. Who even knows who makes weld rod, do Altro and Polyflor make their own or does someone else do it and sell it to them to sell to us.
