Well, with people being made redundant etc at the college i now have to travel every few weeks to Newcastle from Solihull. As it takes on adverage around 5 hours with traffic i have decided that maybe i should start getting the train and saving a few quid on petrol along with the fact i can actually do some work while travelling. So i go to book my train ticket....... i wanted a table so i can set my laptop up and do some paper work (as still takes 4 hrs on train) so 'first class' seems what i need. Birmingham to Newcastle Return is £450 quid !!!!!!!!!!!! So i go second class instead, sod working on the way .. £178 quid !!!!!!!!!! Hang on??? it costs me £70 quid to drive by road? To add to this it costs me £15 quid in parking or £20 quid in a taxi on top! The government want us to use public transport but at that cost? i think not! So i decided to book a plane instead LOL, £240 quid for a plane but takes one hour so figured i would be able to make the extra money back in hours i saved travelling and i can get a lift to the airport easy.
Search online for bus tickets. The missus went return Glasgow/Manchester recently for about £30.http://www.megabus.com/Journey might be longer but price difference enormous.
yes, its bloody ridiculous. It sonds like it would be cheaper by taxi Matt, although you probably wouldn,t be able to use your laptop.
He wouldnt be able to use a lap top ted!,or a card or cheque for that matter,if using a taxi it will be strictly cash as you know what taxi drivers prefer.
Taxis around where i live are driven/owned by the real taxi people if ya know what i mean so there is no chance of obtaining a proper receipt for the business you have conducted with them.
I had a tip once from someone who does a lot of trips by train. if you break the tickets down into stages depending on your route the savings are massive. Work out which stations the train stops at and look for tickets between the stops. I was going to catch a train from Southampton to Birmingham and the saving was nearly 50%.
