Am absolutely sick of dodgy customers using me to rip off their insurance companies for flooring. Don't waste my time, diesel, site visits, ORDERING STOCK IN!!!! and then saying the quote is too dear when that is the one that YOU have sent to the insurance company and BOTH have been happy with and have SIGNED!!!     I am away to the pub when it opens so please ignore any nonsense I may write later on (not spam selling viagra just drunken typing  ) Rant over
We all get them. Hence our strict policy of receiving at least 50% of the materials before we consider the order won - no matter who pays: ultimate client, property management business or insurance company.
I've lost count of the insurance quotes I've done. I'm sure they get the money and then have something cheaper done. What can you do when asked for a quote?
You see thes programmes builders from hell,i think there also should be customers from hell. With the builders from hell stories we only hear the customers side.
How about going to look at 60 m2 wood, customer asking you to come back at 6 when other half is in to check colour. Give them a price, guy says yeah ok just send me a quote and we will sort the deposit out. Rang him back after a week as had no contact and he said oh sorry ive had a offer on the flat and it may be sold next week so dont worry about it! What was I even doing ther then?? I cant figure that 1 out
I measured a 40sqm job on saturday, took a Westex sample book, customer is told the equivalent to hers is the cheapest one in the West End range and says oh no please quote the most expensive one as it's going on the Insurance. I said fine, but you'll have to pay in full before I order the carpet as it's not far off a £4k order and she then changes her mind and opts for the medium one and asks for a written quote on that one. I said she could have a written receipt once she's paid but that I would only quote her on a like for like basis as I felt it was wrong to try and dupe the Insurance company. She then tells me I've offended her. This house must be worth close to £3 million and she still wants to rip off her Insurance company. I'd rather supply and fit a felt-back cord in a mobile home than do her job.
Yeah its not on mate, does my head in when they try and get as much out a job as possible then expect you to back them up. No thanks
I never touch insurance work, and always get 50% deposit before I'll even order the materials. If they don't like it then they can find another mug.
A few years ago we went to quote for an insurance job big lounge dinning room paint spilt all over it said he dropped the tin of paint while decorating,so we were the cheapest quote out of the 3 that he had to get for the insurance company (we done a lot of insurance work with the company at the time and sent the estimate direct to them) So we get the job and the insurance company sent us the cheque for the amount,we then phoned the customer to say come into the shop and pick your carpet. He went beserk demanding his money we politely told him sorry we cant do that you have to pick a carpet at the value of the estimate, he says but i didnt want to use you but needed 3 quotes I can tell you we had great pleasure in doing that job as you could tell he was trying to pocket x amount and get a new carpet
