Hello everyone I was hoping to get some advice from you experts. I'm about to laminate the bedroom but there is a strange problem underneath the existing carpet. It's a small (about 15mm diameter) circular, metal cap or end of a metal rod. It has the initials L & B engraved on it. It must have been an issue for the carpet fitter who put down the existing carpet as he just carpeted over it and it has now worn through. I assume it prods up from the floor boards and it is very solid. Anyone know what it is, or how to get rid of it? I don't think I could put the laminate over it as it is approx. 3cm high. Many thanks Howard (house is a mid 30's semi by the way
Could be. It's about 4inch from the skirting board in an upstairs bedroom. Just in front of where the chimney wall is. Having looked again I can see where an old fire may have been plastered over. I suppose this means it wouldn't be advisable to hack saw it off! Any suggestions for the laminate floor problem and thanks for your speedy advice. Howard
its a pipe that went to the old gas poker (use for lighting coal fires in the old days). i've come across them before even with the brass tap still attached, the one's i've seen used to be supplied by town gas which was discontuied yonks ago. get a gas safe plummer to check if it dead and if so remove it or get a tap fitted and have it as a feature in the room, mind you, you were always tripping over the dam things
Yep definetly GAS had one just like it in my old house traced it back to the gas metre, got my corgi registerd mate in as it was back in the day now its gas safe I think, he cut off and capped it at the metre end just incase as it was very old.
