I have got to put some gel back down in a dining area in a nursing home which I need to stick, but they dont want me to rip the old safety flooring up which I fitted a few years ago, what sort of adhesive if any would take on the vinyl if any, I was wondering if f46 type glues work on that ??
whats the reason for not taking up the safety?? Do they want to use it agin in the future? If not you could ply over it and give you a good base for the new stuff Really you could use anything and be done with it, but with it being a care home theres gonna be a health and saftely factor involved at some point, so the installation will be subject to that and insurance i would assume. Really, you should be telling them how to go about laying the new floor, not them telling you...
well, you should to BS be uplifting the vinyl and preparing the subfloor. However, a little birdy told me that F44 could be used. No guaranty tho and you will be liable for failed flooring.
yep, great stuff and spot on for gellback, but the above is going over vinyl and i believe will react.
All my years fitting I have never stuck on top of sheet vinyl, well cant remember doing it, thats why I asked the question, when you say react in what way ?
plasticiser migration, the glue can react with the vinyl. Depending on which product has teh stronger plasticisers depends on teh reaction. Normally the vinyl will be effected and discolour. In your case this is not a issue as covering it up. The other issue you can have is the glue will break down. Become soft and extra sticky but will not stick the carpet down as it will be like the glue is still wet. Normal takes a year or two for this to happen. Either way one of teh two above will happen. Hopefully the vinyl will be effected on not the adhesive. One of them 50/50 chances.
