I just did work for the local council fitting out a house with carpet all with underlay and gripper came to a total of 6300 I submitted my invoice an now they are sayin in need to register on CIS Scheme however i called hmrc an they say they do not cover carpetfitting but do cover non removable flooring what should i do?
Its easy to register for CIS. Even though carpet fitting / supplying is exempt I still have to give my details when submiting invoices to builders etc that use CIS. Theres a CIS tel number you can call, its a doddle to do, they help you through the registration process.
i registered today for it but they said its a timely process.. Surely they ought to have sought the required information before accepting my quote, I have re sent an invoice stating that carpet fitting is excempt from the scheme and as such i ought to be paid without an UTR.. They will get it on mondeay be interesting to see what happens now
lol thought that myself, that house must be massive  What other things relevant to our trade is also not covered by cis other than plain carpet fitting? (it didnt say suppplying carpets was exempt?)
Anytime I have had to submit a cis invoice I have had to itemise the labour from the supply and the deductions are only then taken from the labour costs. 6300 is a class act to follow though!
I say house it was 2 4bed houses for social services where by they use it for families that foster children, Was 42oz 80/20 on cloud 9 through out bar tarkett in batrooms/kitchen. U guys councils must be tight with there cash?? Our coucil simply dont pay so can pick what they want lol
same here, funny that, my labour don't come to much money. Not tried the free fitting route!! just a thought....
Other construction-related tasks that are never construction operations Some jobs are specifically excluded from the CIS. They include: professional work, like architects' services scaffolding hire - with no labour fire alarm installation carpet fitting manufacturing things like windows, blinds and shutters off-site making and putting up signs delivering materials Taken directly from HMRC website http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cis/intro/decide-if-cis.htm#2
Even if your business or organisation doesn't do building work, it might still be a mainstream contractor or HMRC may treat it as a 'deemed contractor' - and require it to register with CIS - if it spends more than an average of £1 million a year on construction operations over a three year period. So in reality most of us are well exemt no matter what work we're doing unless we earn minimum £1million average a year over 3 years we don't pay  doubt you need it anyway then mate unless you've been really busy
Ok heres sumit completly different HMRC can have my Tax money when they declare to me why in 2006 they declared themselves BANKRUPT and changed their name with companies house with wait for it £15,000,000 still in their account, which still sits there collecting interest in the previously named HMRC PLC to HMRC LTD.
