Very nice Merit top quality gold star for you bud, just one question how did you get it to pull down tight on the riser with out any gripper.
I fitted it from the bottom up with a stretcher, I was shown how to do that on the training day and Ive fitted the last couple of staircases that way. Not sure it would look any good if I was fitting a cream velvet pile??
Also I stapled it after I tucked it into the gripper, you couldnt see any staple mark at all but it was a dark, loop/cord carpet
Really you could do with gluing the riser with spray etc and you wont need to staple behind the gripper as the riser is held in place and you have stretch on the tread. If your fitting this style Merit and stretching you could do with taping the underlay over teh nose so it dont drag and pull up when stretching. Anyway, great first attempt ! Looks very good mate Going to be running a course soon that will be fitting a range of different stairs and methods that i think you will enjoy
Sounds good to me, always looking to learn new things. Did I read that correct? spray? didnt think you were a fan of that stuff. I did wonder about the underlay, the first step it rucked up so I sprayed the front of them but taking the underlay all the way round would of been better
Spray it with double sided tape mate. Figure or speach mate  I was waiting for someone to pick up on that. So serious head back on......... obviously you can use spray adhesive in a well ventilated area and wearing the correct PPE
Is the main advantage fitting this way to prevent seeing the annoying gap and underlay from the side ?
you can get the stairs tighter than a nat's chuff this way, easy as hell but takes a little longer. It's the recommended way to fit all stair runners i've ever come accross, but i'd use crumb rubber u/lay this way it doesn't ruck as easily, double sided tape on the riser is defo the way to go though unless you want to go back when the spray cocks up, waste of money that stuff is these days very poor
