I called at my friends carpet shop today as we were both going to measure a job together, him the carpet, me the Karndean. He was saying he has hardly had a soul through the door since the new year and the worst January he's ever had.
Think having a shop is alot harder as more overheads. Hope it picks up for him as he's a great bloke.
I'm quiet for me but happy as getting alot done. Measured alot though so hopefully get most of them.

Yep, January is shit, no work and a big tax bill. :(
I'm sure it'll pick up, always does.

I'm picking up a lot for January so definitely not complaining. All the carpet shops I know are dead.

it's been a grim jan but have had enough installs to get through & am rammed for the coming 3 weeks or so, so not complaining. BUT as vman unerlined that dreaded tax bill looming large is a real pi**er!!!

in the past year i've installed faaar less supply & fit & have got by primarily on fit only, aided by suppling the more specialist materials / accessoris (Adhesive, nosing, skirtings, etc) this seems to be the way we're heading with it becoming increasingly easier for clients to source their own materials (Following advice usually by someone like myself) on-line & getting it installed by a pro fitter...

another indication of the current recessive climate is that whereas my workload a couple of years back was about 80%/20% wood over laminate it is now more so 50%/50%!!! people ARE certainly tightening their purse strings & expecting more for less...

moan over... couple of daus off ahead allocated to slabbing the last bit of garden which the dogs pi** has finally killed off :D
