Just when you think you have a full week sorted. Arrived to load up this morning and the job has been put off until next week. "sorry meant to call you!" Reckon this trade needs/ deserves a cancellation charge! Rant over!!
I have it in my t&c's that once the job is confirmed/ordered/booked in etc, if the job cancels at the 11th hour then there will be a surcharge.. Sometimes works, sometimes doesnt lol
It's in our T&C's which we get customer to sign prior to arranging a fitting date, always works we charge min fit for screwing us around, if it's a big job it's 25% surcharge on top of the invoiced amount don't get many cancellations  sometimes it can't be helped and we do wave the fee but most of the time it's people trying it on
Same thing happened to me this week, 3 day job put of until next week :x then another customer broke thier ankle 1 hour before I was supposed to do their job, week gubbed After getting the phone call that job had been put back i went into KFC for something to eat, key snaped and all doors were locked had no access to my tools if the job was on so actually worked out O.K, (didnt have a spare)then mamaged to help someone out that needed something done quickly once keys were cut,(Thanks for passing my name on mike) Then another couple of other small jobs cropped up so wasnt a total didaster
I haven't had any last minute cancellations but turned up at a few kitchen jobs and there's a few trades still working on it which is no use if you're using ps adhesive and if there's dust and debris flying. I always advise I need the room to myself but they always seem to think they know better.
we get a lot of cancelled jobs. Think we suffer more as we have a shop on a major High street in Birmingham. We get treated more like a big firm similar to the council that can fill the days work up for the fitters by sending else where to paint a fence or something . End of the day we cant. Some customers seem to think they can just go out shopping etc and we will sit and wait or come back the next day. So many liar's also that say we gave them the wrong date etc and blame the staff. Most don't realise that they are speaking to the same staff on the phone as the person that booked them in.
I travelled 40mins to repair a carpet and they never answered the door or phone. Rang me back 2 hours later saying they were in (they definatly not because i sat there banging on the door for 20mins)but could I go back another day. No thanks
that's one we get a lot. Trust me if i traveled the distance i will do my best to look through every window and bang it also. Annoys me when they lie.
Mate, I was even calling through the letterbox, I would of walked round the back of the house but I thought I might look a bit dodgy climbing over thier side gate. I don't bother with trying to get money out of them for wasted time, just more hassle
70 mile round trip but neil gave me their website for the adress, which says the place is on Argyle st Glasgow and I know well so thought get there no probs. Driving up an down Argyle st and couldndt find the bloody place, and with the 1 way systems, diversions an bus and taxi only lanes it became a nightmare, the place was actually just off Argyle st and was lucky to spot it eventually
Think one of the main probs is that we are not recognised as a trade!! I reckon we deserve a reclassification!
Now I don't understand where you come from with this remark? A contract is a contract, and if events like these (cancelling or postponing of a job at the 11th hour) isn't covered in your T&C you could in fact blame yourself. Why would it have anything to do with being recognised as a trader? We're all professionals, and your T&C etc should reflect this - recognition as in client not taking the "mickey" follows
Sorry cooli will explain my post. It has been asked of me a few times if I fit carpets in my spare time or asked what's your real job. I think there is a perception that floor fitters are handy men with no real recognised trade, like that of a plumber, spark or joiner. But this is probably another thread. Anyway it was the shop who forgot to cancel me and since they happen to be nice chaps who get it right 9/10 times I am over it. Was able to go a buy my young'un a pair of nice new pink shoes.
Anyone here had dealings with HGT construction? They've just canx a contract with me in Bournemouth after agreeing everything, promising the deposit and getting the paperwork in order, then deciding last minute that they can't afford it....then stating that they coudn't have afforded the final payment even if they had found the deposit....WTF?
Time wasters are abundant at the minute mate, but if the paperwork was set up how did they get out of it, once signed becomes a legally binding contract?
