    Nice pics what material / colour is 2nd pic I've got a thing at the moment I like the dark wood colours it's driving the wife mad I want to keep changing all lots in our house :D

    Also welsh, the solid oak around the fireplace, how have you left expansion?

    looks like strand woven carbonised now I look closer, plus I think the fireplace was put on top of the flooring.

    soz all been wi-fi free all week in the wilds of Leicestershire!!! worse than losing a limb :evil:

    the second shot is indeed bamboo, a few years back now but i doth recall it being a horizontal strand woven caramelized product. went down well :cool:

    Matt - there is an 10 - 12mm expansion around the bespoke slate (Welsh) hearth, the guy who installed it ensured that there was a sufficient 'over-hang' of approx 3" on the top slate section to effectively 'hide' the expansion... thus providing a relatively seamless transition from good old oak to a nice bit of slate... :cool:

    LOL :lol: me, the client & hearth fitter had a good chat about what we all wanted - ultimately what the client wanted - & agreed upon how to get the best outcome, IE 3" overhang providing clearance of the floor & yet allowing me to install without any degree of difficulty.

    Guess that's the real big plus of having a bespoke product eh ;)
