I'm after a new dust extractor that I can link up to my power tools (saws mainly).
Anyone got any suggestions and have you used them?
I'd like a Festool but as usual the price is to high.

Plenty out there much cheaper around the £100 mark, Just make sure it has a power take off socket. Mine came from Machinemart for about £90 and it removes about 90% of the dust and mist when I use my mitre saw. You need a mitre saw that has been designed for dust extraction. My DeWalt DW777 has three ports as opposed to one on most saws so it's much more efficient. My Exact DC270 circular is also designed for dust extraction as the spring loaded guard completely shrouds the cutting area hence drawing nearly all the dust.

I use this one http://www.toolstop.co.uk/makita-440-we ... 240v-p3014 got for a tenner off Ebay as the take-off function didn't work, soldered a new capacitor on from maplin and away it goes. I also use an Exact saw and mitre but hire industrial vacuum for grinding crap off floor if it is a big job as constantly emptying bag

Good for cutting up to 9mm ply as cutting on the ground and no farting about lifting and cutting with jigsaw, and nice and clean with a hoover

Not quite right Brian .....the Exakt saw I'm talking about is the DC270 http://www.exakt.biz/dc270.html It cuts up to 26mm fairly comfortably and it's very accurate too. I've been using it for ripping 18mm oak and with the dust extractor virtually no mess.

My mistake, was talking about the cheap basic green one as I go through them like there is no tomorrow. Had this one http://www.realoakfloors.co.uk/exakt_ps ... v_110v.php and burnt out after 4 months and waited over a month to be fixed and sent back so now just use cheap green one as only use this for ply and chop saw for solids.

I find the smaller ones eat 6mm ply but really struggle with 9mm. I use the bigger one DC270 for 9mm and above. If you use 9mm ply a lot it's worth the investment as they go fairly accurately through it like butter and then maybe use the small one for notches.

Festool always worth the investment if you're doing lots of cutting.

I won't argue with that as Festool gear is the doggies. I don't do enough wood though to warrant the investment though.

But if you decide to go into cutting doors and say you cut on average 2 a day it will soon pay for itself.

My personal festool gear is well over 10years old now and still going strong. The amount of tools i have purchased in between and replaced a few times i wish i just brought the festool equivalent years ago.

As stated tho, in expensive. but after owning the kit for many years you understand why. You get what you pay for

I need to speak with them again. I brought it up at a meeting today with BWFA.

We are looking at a bigger training center where we will have stuff like this in stock.

Great I'll be looking for jigsaw, mitrsaw, drill, table saw, dust extractor, planer etc... in a few months. Anyone tried festool's carpet lifter?
