I do all my bullnose steps in one piece to give the appearance of a cap and band but just think it looks neater in one piece, but does anyone know what the preferred method is for fixing/attaching the band section of the bullnose? I am going through the process of becoming an n.i.c.f master fitter and have recently found out they accept a cap and band bullnose (not a hand sewn one thank goodness!!) but i am unsure of how they want the band fixing! Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated! Cheers
as long as its fixed and the pins are not visible then you can use what you like. Preferred method is to use a spotnails staple gun (Me4000 or Me606) Whats with not stiching? is something you dont do or never shown or just dont like doing maybe? Sorry for all the questions, just after some feedback for future courses.
Not sure to be honest with you, but in all honesty anybody can to do cap and band not everyone can hand sew a double bullnose. What I want to know is why have N.I.C.F dropped sewing bullnoses as part of the criteria of becoming a master fitter? Was going to go for the master fitter status but in my opinion whats the point if they are accepting something that most competent fitters can do(cap & band) not everyone can sew carpets.
I agree, Master fitter always had the status of being the best of the best. When i passed it i was very proud. But now i dont bother going on about it any more. I sometimes wonder if its worth renewing my membership. Master fitter to me is now passing as maybe slightly higher than a average fitter. Sorry 'carpetmad' if that's not what you want to hear. Just the way i feel now, and being a Master Fitter myself im sure you will understand that im not just saying that as someone that is not a 'Master Fitter' and jealous or just against it.
i dont know why they wont accept it done in a single piece, much more difficult to do it right and get it really tight.
presume you mean cape + band in 1 piece? there is not a issue with you doing it in one. this is ok on the master fitter.
I tend to do the bull in one piece using the me 4000. However I think that a bit of spray on Tge face is a nicer finish. Would love to know how to sew them though. Have uplifted a few old axi's in my time and i am always amazed at the sewing.
Its not really been asked for it, but while quoting its something you can offer. Its not as popular as it used to be but we have a lot of customers who when given the choice went with us as we could do what the other fitter couldn't. We would charge extra also and customers would pay it. Its like most things tho, its easy when you have been shown how.
hi all, ref sticking band on riser for bull nose, use spray adhisive to prime surface first, then use VELCRO TO RISER THEN CARPET,JOB DONE..
sewing bullnoses have you fellas never come across a crete staircase thens there is no option but to sew
I used to sew all my bullnose`s. It was the only method allowed at the first shop I worked for. They always looked good, but I don`t think they looked better than a cap and band. With most of the crap sold now, it would be tough to sew them anyway.
I watched someone else do one, then whenever i had time and spare carpet would always try and do it.I still do them now if i got time, just to keep me fresh, i even used to take spare carpet home and practice sewing after work,i tried telling that to the young apprentice i got with me,but so far he dont bother
Never sewn a stair in 40 years! That I'm surprised aabout but what would you do if a customer asked you to do it that way or you had concrete stairs. That's why I think training is important. I'd dint know either but went to floorskills, job done. I've shown fitters with 30yrs of experience better methods.
