Hi folks, I have been asked to quote for supplying and fitting a H/S/L in a large house which is used for community care. They obviously want something hard wearing and are prepared to pay for that. I suspect they may want something with a small pattern. Although I have well over 100 sample books I have very few carpets which will meet the criteria of small pattern and hard wearing. I have loads of good 80/20's I could show them. I deal with Headlam & MCD so there are loads Of carpets I can get but just don't have samples for. They normally want the appearance of their houses to be as domestic as possible to make their clients feel as thought they 'are at home' which they are of course. Any suggestions or previous experience of similar jobs appreciated. Cheers Ray
Try JHS part of Headlam, they do have quite a few with smaller patterns Wilton and Axminster contract grade not cheap though.
Hi mate; firstly why do customers always want the one you don't have? My thinking would be, due to the fact it's commercial, it should be a fully adhered impervious backed carpet, i do a fair bit of work for childrens day nurseries and this style of product works well! Although you did say they like to keep the appearence domestic (unfortunately commercial and domestic are far apart as you well know!!) The last nursery i did i had to fit riser and tread in different colours, as well as stair nosings for the partially sighted! If they do insist on domestic carpet it's a tough call between a top end 50 0z 80/20 or a top end polyprop, both have advantages and disadvantages, but as long as the client is aware of both sides of the coin you have done your best!
you should be looking for a 100% poly etc. Dont have a wool mix and impervious backing is also recommended.
they dont get much wear. the average sq'm takes about 30 mins for someone to travel over it in retirement homes . Bit like that poor chair in IKEA that has that machine giving it slow gentle squash every day. No offense old people if your reading this. Yes i know one day i will be old and slow also. Well im already slow.
Thanks for the replies, I should point out this property is not like a proper nursing home or care home. It is a traditional 4/5 bed house that has been converted into a home for there clients - hence why they like to keep it as 'homely' as possible. Gel backed carpets and nosings are almost certainly out I'm afraid. In all honesty it is more of a heavy domestic situation than contract. Thanks again
Could try them with a heavy Berber fleck instead of a pattern? Kingsmead and Georgian do man made versions that look like wool. Not used hem myself tho so not sure how good they are
To be honest thats what I was thinking, I have a few books like that. I should be going to measure tomorrow so once I speak to them I will have a better idea what they are after. Stainfree Berber Deluxe ? Cant see a man made in the Georgian price list, only one in the Kinsmead I have is Silk Sensations Supreme. Tomkinson have a few but I dont have samples. Think it was Matt who mentioned above a wool twist would not be reccomended though........I certainly wouldn't put one on a hotel staircase for example but in the type of situation I am needing it for I would have thought it would be fine. Some of the 60 oz are rated 'Extra Heavy Domestic' , I'm sure I have seen one rated for light contract ( hotel or b&b bedrooms I presume).
