Hello I’m after some help. I have googled but cannot find an exact answer. Google has brought me to this forum on numerous searches so I have signed up. What a chore that is also. I work for two large flooring firms. I don’t want to say who they are as I don’t want to put my job on the line. My problem is I have been forced to go on fita training courses for the one company and the other company has had me doing the Q+A fita tests. In total I must be at around £1000 spent on these courses to get qualified. I don’t have a problem with doing the courses and getting qualified. Now the one company I work for sent me to a building site a few weeks ago to install some rhino floor to the kitchen areas. Site Forman asked for my cscs card (which is out of date but never asked for before) and he refused me entry to the building site. So I ring CSCS to get a new card and they say I need a qualification in flooring. I tell them I’m FITA qualified and that I’m also Q+A carded. Turns out that neither of these qualifications (yes my certificate says qualified from fita) is worth the paper they are written on. I have to have a NVQ. So I get in contact with a company named Flooring Assessments and they talk me through what I have to do. According to them it’s correct that the fita training certificates, courses and the Q+A card test I have done are not recognised. Now I’m very very annoyed. I have spent out around £1000 in compulsory apparent qualifications I need with fita. The biggest piss take is the fact that Flooring Assessments have told me that they will send someone out to assess me on a job for a real NVQ qualification and the bit I cant believe it won’t cost me a penny, its fully funded according to them ( I have my doubts but we will see)

How can these fita people take money off people with false advertising of getting qualified and it’s a made up qualification? Surely it’s illegal? I would presume there are plenty of others in my shoes, I’m considering going to watch dog but I’m afraid that if my name comes out I will lose my job. What would you advise?

Hi and welcome to teh forum,

it would of been me of Dave you spoke to at flooring assessments mate. I have a idea of who you are , however i have pretty much the same converstation most days about teh F.I.T.A and q&a card.

Sadley it is true that its not a qualification in any way. you have attended a training course only. The q&a card i cant get my head around myself as it seems to different to nicf master fitter which again is not a reconosed qualification.

As for flooring assessments, yes we can get you full funding for your NVQ and it will be a onsite assessment. Have you thought about speaking to F.I.T.A direct about your concerns ? I would be asking for a refund if you was led to belive you was getting a qualification out of it.

Give me a call if i can be of more assistance

    Regards

    Matt. 07971199204

    Holiday home in Nepal?
I can't even afford a caravan in Skeggy!

So correct me if I'm wrong, Matt, but could I get someone out to assess my work for free, and have an NVQ at the end of it? :?:

So , one of my assessors will come to one of your jobs and assess you fitting in the real world. At the end of it you get your NVQ all for FREE !

To add to this if you have a apprentice i can get them full funding to come to teh training center for a minimum of 22 days FREE also !

    Hi mate,

FloorSkills and flooring assessments are separate companys. However both are run side by side as one company needs teh services of another company ! Hence they can offer both training and a qualification at teh end of it.

FloorSkills is the training center that offers training course and the government apprenticeships will be run from there.

Flooring Assessments is the NVQ provider. This is the company that can set up funding and NVQ's.

The one thing that bothers me is how could I arrange to be assessed when I don't know when I'm working?
What I mean is, I'm booked up for the next fortnight, but after that, who knows?

Sidney, We hit a large area at a time and will be in that area normally for a whole week. So if you are in that area its not a issue coming to see you.

If you cant be seen that week then we keep you loged and if a assessor is passing within in around 50 miles of you he will come and see you. We have a lot of assessors so not normally a issue.

the new forum (when it actually goes live  ) has a calender that will display what ares and dates our assessors will be in your area. So again you can use this and pretty much give us 24hrs notice when we are in your area.

So as my card is wrong because my assessor lost half my work and mixed the remainder up with another lad I have a card with textiles instead of impervious  so to re do it correctly would I have to pay to re do or change details ?

    BEFORE ANYONE GETS CONFUSED !

Flooring Assessments didnt do your NVQ !

Answer at the moment is yes mate. As it was not us that did your NVQ there is nothing i can do to correct the issue. Also as you now have a NVQ you cant get funding to redo a 2nd NVQ in say carpet.

Unless you know which college your NVQ was put through i cant help in anyway. Also i can only help if it is a college we work with. Other wise i would be a nobody phoning up to report a issue.
