Yes mate, the water flares the joints after it has been laid. The screed dries hard and then over the next 2 days the chipboard joints swell and you end up with what looks like plywood lines showing through the material. So , plywood first
I have a few times with level flex then polysafe on top. Builders jobs. It worked well but you should ply 1st.
i put 700 over my best mates bathroom chipboard floor, 131 first then the 700 Still looks good as the day it went down tbh But only reason i did it was 1. i was interested to see the limits 2. my mate doesnt care it it pops as he got the materials for nowt (spares left over in my store) But i would otherwise always ply over chipboard as it is a more stable material than chipboard Unless your using the chinese carp then may as well lay it straight onto the chipboard! lol
It's great renovation as its half the price of 700 but I wouldnt say its better. Renovation doesn't have as many fibres in it ( which maybe why it's cheaper, Matt? ) mapei do another wood screed with alot of fibres in. I don't think Renovation leaves as smooth as a finish as 700 too and can leave a dusky finish . Well it has with me before. Another budget wood screed is level flex, but I've found that leaves a rough finish.
renovation has the same as 700 if not more than 700 i think hence the finish is more rough because of the fibres. Personally i think its a lot better than 700. When i was working at a college down south the lads was using both products on the same day (we didnt have enough of the one product) and all 18 lads preferred the renovation. Mapei also have fibreplan that is priced the same as 700 that has 5x the fibers and stronger. But like most things the installers want 'cheap' hence they make Renovation screed and also Latex plan. Mapei only make Latexplan for the U.K market as some fitters only want to use 'latex'. Even then people moaned about price so then they made Latexplan 'trade' which is again a budget compound but offers far more strength than others.
I thought you said a while back Matt it has less thats why it flows better? I cant remember. . I used the laybond one for a while because it was only one I could get.
Did i ??? the renovation has less than 700 so it flows better? i must of been drunk that night and thinking of something else!
Fibre plan was here first and priced same as 700. Fitters moaned that to much money so Mapei made a budget version called Renovation that is same spec as 700.
