all flex compounds need 24 hrs to dry.

does it need a flex compound or can it be skim coated as Daz says?

F ball 700 superflex can be overlaid in 3 hours, depending on conditions.
I`m sure the way the weather is at the moment, it will be quick

Drying times are referring to going over a concrete subfloor in ideal conditions.

over a timber floor that is flexing it needs to be left longer to gain it's strength. All depends on how much flex the subfloor has tho.

ye feather finish is fine. Its designed for going over screws / pins etc. When stapled you could get away with not applying feather finish to the boards other than the joints. Now you have to go over the whole floor with it.

Just make sure your fixings are flush.
