Border first mate, then bang in the field. Try to get her to have it logged instead of mitred looks far better.

Main field first. If you do border first you can not adjust the way the feild drops. Also when boarder first you can push open teh corners when field is dropped in.

There are multiple methods dependent on adhesive used etc.

If we was using a true PS adhesive then i would mark where boarder drops on subfloor. Then glue out over the line. Fit field about 20mm over subfloor line.

Then when field fitted i would make sure im happy with how boarder drops. (going over the line give you chance to adjust)

Then its simply lay a straight edge and score. Lift tiles back out and snap and bevel underside. Now fit boarder.

However, please note that you cant do this is a normal adhesive. Adhesive choice will determine what method you install.

Hence i would recommend a course to show different methods along with what happens if you do certain things.

I set the room out, get my lines in the right place then glue out half the room.
While the glue is drying I cut some tiles in half diagonal ready to just drop in.
The main thing is the set it and make sure you get half tiles on the main walls.

All depends on the area though.

I always put boarder in first I find it a lot quicker and I use my under over scribers to cut tiles into boarder then use my beveler upside down to bevel the back of the tile a little if set up correctly they will drop in mm perfect, unless it's a small room where you can alter the boarder size to get half tile cuts on main sides

    normally field first for me
But every room is dif, all depends what design, how awkward the room is etc which dictates field or border first
    Setout is key
    Good luck matey

Same as Danny for me. But whatever way you do it.

    Set out is the key.

If you look at this, I set it out so every inside tile is cut at half a tile. But in doing that the border will be different sizes in most cases.

Thats the 'Karndean' way of doing it. Looks great in 3 sided feature wall rooms like bathrooms and kitchens.

But in larger areas with more than 3 walls that you look at, well it looks crap. (not saying what you have done looks crap Daz as i know you install similar to me with set out and wont do as pictured in say a through lounge or kitchen / diner running through)

    'Hairylayer'

I think the amount of replies to this thread show that there is so many different ways to set and what way to install depending on the area to be installed.

Like i say "i think a course would help" . Im not saying that to sell a course. But until you are shown when and why its advised to install a certain way it is "guess work"until you know.

Talking of selling courses, did you realise that 'FloorSkills' is now offering 20 days FREE training at our training center? , including you get a NVQ + tech cert at end of it?

anyone interested in the FREE training then please phone me on 07971199204 for full details.

Like Daz said set out is key. If your cuts dont work well in your field try shifting them a 1/4 of a tile over. It just means that your still have full tiles but they will be in different positions either side.
