Been on site this week and have to wear full ppe which is fair enouth I'm all for going home in one piece but come on do these people leave there common sense at home working in finished toilet this morning 2m x 2m cap cove with toilet pedestool towel rail and still have to wear hard hat which keeps hitting things googles that keep steaming up where I'm so hot and viz vest that keeps getting caught under me while laying down to cut vinyl for capping hard hat keeps falling off and all foreman can say is you need a chin strap, then get moaned at because I have steel toe showing and I have to get new ones sod off i could wear through a pair every couple of months, then get a lecture on how dangerous it is only wearing 1 glove In case I cut myself as I don't wear a glove on knife hand but if I've got my knife in my hand very hard to cut that hand, rant over time for a beer

It's just people ticking boxes, after all they don't have to fit the floor.

    Pet hate of mine.
Bp wanted us to use spring loaded knifes. I threw mine across the floor, and told them what they were good for.
Health and safety has gone mad, and they seem hell bent on causing us to injur ourselves, by wearing gloves and glasses that no one can see out of, gloves so you can`t feel the knife, and tools that you cant work with !
A while ago a friendof mine had to carry a fire extinguisher with him while using adhesive. Best bit was he got told, he must never use it, as he was not trained to do so.

    it has gone daft.

I was onsite assessing a lad for his NVQ. Area was finished apart from flooring. I had to wear full PPE and gloves. I could not press the start and stop button on the camera and could not right down notes as could not grip pen.

The lad i was assessing slipped and stuck knife in his leg caused by him wearing gloves.

As a assessor that is out there and covering H+S i reported this as actually hazard and going to cause a accident (floorlayers wearing a glove on hand they cut with) but was told "thats the rules of the site"

Im all for PPE that is appropriate for the area you are working in, but finished areas its a joke.

I could have done with putting my hat on yesterday, four times I caught my head on the sink, but then it was only 4 planks wide... I told the customer it would have been quicker to take the pan out than try to fit around it with a boxed in area in the corner aswell... JOYS

The bloke that helps me out sometimes could do with a hard hat, he managed to bang his head on the same low doorway 4 times the other day. We were only there for a few hours!

Excuse me for going off topic slightly but, a 2m x 2m area with toilet and sink pedestal in place already defeats the the whole point of COVE & CAP.

I agree but good old site managers get the plumbers to second fix because it looks almost finished without thinking about the floors going in, we were ment to cap cove class rooms aswell but as the units turned up early they are now fixed and we have to cove up the kick boards now including work stations in middle of the room, when we mentioned to foreman what happens when they pressure test the building and they have a leak in pipe behind unit you won't beavke to see it his reply was there won't be a leak there qualified plumbers not kids

Cowboys lot of them, wish they'd get it right for once, and regardless of who they are anything can go wrong.

worked on a site a few years ago and when they pressure tested some one hadnt capped main pipe off on the top floor, was left all weekend ,water cascading from rooms down 4 floors (true story, artisan consruction) also when they built a block on a large crete slab like a courtyard someone forgot to place drainage ,it rained very heavy and created a very nice 3ft deep swimmimg pool which destroyed about 20 appt on ground floor ,it was great in 3 mths we had to replace 40 floors.

Haha I remember in1999 when we did the new wings at send prison in Guildford the plasterers where putting boards on the ceiling then striking lines where the joists were exept one day a new crew turned up tacked them up and struck lines ready for the nipper to screw up exept they struck chalk lines where the pipes were to warn him, so he went along wit auto screw gun as he did the week before screwing on the lines as the system had been tested then drained noone knew until it was filled the next month haha there must of been over 2000 screws in pipes
