Hi. I have installed my own carpets and surprised myself by doing a pretty good job but I am having problems with a transition from the carpet on the landing to the wooden steps I also renovated: I wrapped the underlay and carpet around the edge of the step then stapled it to the underside but as you can see it looks a little clumsy. Could I please have suggestions for ways I can get a neater and cleaner look to the underside edge of the carpet. Thanks
could pin a white beading across the top of the riser to 'mask' the untidy carpet line... OR neatly cut a new 'false' riser out of ply / hardboard, paint white & fix in place... easiest option #1 best result #2... the choice is yours
what you should of done is finish the underlay just over the tread (not underneath) and taped in place. Then when the carpet came around and under the nose the carpet would be sitting flat on the wood. When you pinned into place you wont get the dips. The dips are caused because the underlay is compressing.

Thanks mate. I can see how Option #2 would leave quite a neat look. Will give this a try if my diy carpeting skills can't get Matts solution to look neat and professional.
