Who wears the proper PPE and who doesn't or never has.

I just been to screw fix and got some new hard toe trainers, some new ear protectors, safety glasses and dust masks.

I've started wearing ear protection when cutting doors or undercutting for wood because I find it really painful

Also got some dust masks because after sweeping a really dusty floor or ripping up some nasty old carpet my chest gets really tight and get a really dry throat

I wish I had always worn a dust mask, every time I do a wood job with out one I'm up all night coughing my guts up? Smoking from the age of 12 probably didn't help, given that up now (hopefully)

Don`t mind boots. I prefer them.
    Don`t mind wearing a vis.
Don`t like hats, pain in the ass, unless i`m outside on site, and I think its needed. Why do I need to wear one in a finished building when the ceiling is finished ??
Glasses, oohhh they have steamed up and I cut my finger off !!!!!
Ear plugs, well I have worn them when grinding down Gyvlon screed
Gloves, no thanks, i`m using a knife and like to be able to feel it.

Worked for BP this year, and they wanted us to use spring loaded knifes !!! Most dangerous things EVER

Masks if it's dusty, glasses - not unless I'm nailing into concrete or grinding etc.
Steel toes - never had em, never needed to.
Got all hi-vis gear & hard hat (all logo branded of course!) ;)

I got the glasses for fitting wood, guarantee every time I use my jigsaw I get something in my eye.

I've never needed steel toe caps because I only really do domestic stuff but I still wear them. The first pair I got saved my toes from a full pallet of solid wood so I'm glad I have them now

Always wear a dust mask when cutting wood/laminate if I'm not using a vacuum.
Usually wear glasses when grinding.- a floor.
Steel toe caps too heavy - wear my legs out!

I normally wear safety glasses when cutting doors as always seem to be staples in the bottom that fly out. Can't fit carpet in steel toe caps and hard hat.

just something to think about, if any of you lads employ someone do you know what you have to legally supply them?

I'd be interested to know that.
When I started on YTS my boss didn't even bother to supply trousers. I was prepping in a pair of jeans on a concrete floor, aching to buggery. After a while, I sewed pouches on the knees and made pads from underlay.
Eventually I bought a pair of snickers for 30 quid, which was my weekly wage at the time.
Get bloody angry just thinking about it.

Funny you should say that, today I bought a new tool box because my handle has been broken for weeks, new trousers because mine were ripped t the groin, new boots because I been wearing old trainers for the last 6 months and the safety stuff because I've never had any.

That's what you get for working for family !

As far as I know you are legally required to supply them with 'anything they require, to complete the task safely'.
I always keep gloves, glasses, masks etc on the van, but no-one uses them (except charlie, he loves a mask).

Gloves, hi-viz, helmet and toe capped trainers, all my work is site based now so dont get a choice in the matter, but inside the plots you can normally get away with just the hi-viz and gloves with the helmet near by as long as they are near completion (which they should be as we are a FINISHING TRADE)

I've never worn any of the above. Never worn; hat, hi-vis, gloves or boots. Worked on site a few times and didn't need any of that or even a CSCS card.

Ridiculous when I think about it.
