was asked today by a shop that i do a little work for if it was ok to durafit over underfloor heating. The house (domestic) has 2 rooms over 25 meters in length (never did tell me how wide) and a hall something similar.I didn't think there would be a problem following the normal rules regarging ufh, turning it off then after fitting back on by increments, although i did say to be careful about underlay togg ratings. the order so far carpet only comes out at about £15,000. so don't want to give him a bum steer if anyone can confirm this or which underlay they would advise i would be thankful
depends on heating system. Who ever has fitted the heating system needs to supply you with what the max TOG rating that can be applied over it. Until you know this you wont know what carpet and underlay can be used. For example- Some carpets will be too high a tog rating even without underlay, there are also underlays that will be too high. I would guess if using durafit then there wont be many carpets that can be used over the top to stay in the tog rating. IF you ignore the tog rating the underfloor heating system will over heat and shut down without any heat actually getting through. There have been a few cases of the electric mates actually setting fire as they are to insulated and temperature cut out is also to insulated.
Brintons actually advise double sticking over underfloor heating if I remember correctly? I've never bothered. Alot of the victoria and brockway carpets are good tog rating for underfloor heating.
i'am lead to belive that the ufh is the water in flexable pipes as opposed to the eletric mat type, the customer wants carpets, either convenionally fitted or otherwise the shop was concerned about the size for strech fit (even with a power strecher) and were considering the durafit method, their regular fitter was unable to advise (old duffer) thats why they phoned me, they hadn't even thought of the tog rating untill i mentioned it
i think they have already picked a carpet as the shop have given a quote, it was the underlay that i was a bit concerned about and weither the durafit would be a better method regarding the sizes involved.
as i said before " you need to check tog rating of carpet + underlay" before the underlay is decided on. I would go with stretch fit with power stretcher. Use a power stretcher and you want to lay carpet out and then turn heating on. Wait until carpet is warm and then power stretch.
I've found we have to leave Roma to lay out over night to get the bubbles out of it or is that just the way cfs are stacking it?!
Roma is thicker on one side, and thinner on the other. Even if you alternate the cuts you have problems and you see the joins through the carpet. For that reason i don't use it.
I'm not sure mate but you know ball and young products are quality. The technics 5 underlay is really good but I can't make out if you can double stick it?
Couldn't you use Cloud 9 Radiance? Here's some information on it; http://www.underlay.com/radiance.html
