Got 3 areas coming up where part walls are being knocked down and I have to fill the holes. Then lay over with Karndean.
Sizes are approx 2ft x 6" and about 4" deep.
Last time I did it I used visqueen sheet and filled it with screed and granno. But ceramic were going down so didn't have to worry about drying time.
Is this the best way? Or should I use something like ardex 35 mix. But that will be pricey.

Ardex and chippings is what I would use but 96mm would that have to be done in 2 or 3 coats

Which would mean 5 total visits mate. Will work out which is cost effective.

I know fast trak 30 can go upto 10mm but you may be able to bulk with chipping

your looking at making a smoothing compound something it is not designed to do. you need a sand and cement mix. but then you have drying times. Mapei do a product called 'topcem' as pointed out above. It is designed to be used the same as a sand and cement mix but has additives that makes it fine to be layed on after i think 7 days. It still needs a smoothing compound over the top tho as it is a deep fill concrete.

Anyway, this thread got me thinking. Would you all benefit from a course that covers concrete floor types and construction, what you can use and what you cant for deep sections? mixing concrete and why a certain mix etc?

I ask as this is something we could add to our course list, do you think we should offer a course like so?

Yeah, a real world subfloor prep course would be very beneficial, we all know the floors we have to tackle everyday are less than perfect.

how much is a bag of ardex 55?

like i said above, using the wrong product. For example i can mix 1 tonne of sand and cement for £100 quid.

Ardex 55 is 10kg bags? so you would need 100 bags to mix the same as what i can mix.

Anyone have a price on 55 at moment?

It say here anything over 10mm add aggregates ImageUploadedByTapatalk1348861788.527547.jpg

    Isn't it about £30 a bag ?

I'd have though 1 bag would be enough to do what's needed with chippings added

    Really, really fast, and solid.
Fill em in, prime and screed.
