Evening all..... Need some advice please with some parquet flooring. Been to look at a job where they have some parquet flooring that has been uplifted from an old school. Plan was to fit then sand etc... So here's the questions: 1: Does the bitumen need to be removed before it is installed? 2: Will i need to treat it like normal solid wood? i.e expansion, acclimatise? 3: Can i install plywood then glue the flooring direct to the plywood? Appreciate any help and thank you in advance.
Thanks for the response. Is there any specific way to remove the Bitumen off the back of the flooring or do i not want to ask?
as stated you don't wanna ask, kookin 'mare of a job BUT has to be done - Grinder, scraper whatever means you have, or use an apprentice
Hi, The bitumen will have to be cleaned off (not a nice job unfortunately). You will need to acclimatize the floor and I would recommend that you leave an expansion gap under the skirting. If the skirting is not being replaced then you can undercut the skirting and slip the wood underneath. You can glue the parquet to the ply as long as the ply is fixed down all over, and you use a flooring adhesive that is compatible. Daniel Floorsave
