Does anyone use fuel cards ? Ive been running up and down the country lately, and i`m looking at how I can make even a small reduction. BP do one, which seems to offer 3p a liter reduction, on pump price.
I have Shell fuel card - up to 3p a litre cheaper but not always. Sometimes it is cheaper at the supermarkets especially if they have offers on. My price is usually fixed from Monday to Sunday each week - they text to let me the price for the following week.
Mmm maybe not as good as it sound`s then. Still, at least it should be decent quality fuel, rather than the supermarket stuff. I still use it, cos its cheap, but seem to get 30-40 miles less per tank, when I do
I've had a guy stalking me about fecking fuel cards for months! He's been telling me how my bills will be 3-5p cheaper per litre every time. I spoke to the manager at my local station thats uses the fuel card company and he basically told not to waste my time. He reckoned I would need 3+ vans running to make it worth while. Also, when you don't spend a certain amount each month you end up paying forecourt prices anyway. Although I daresay different companies offer different deals
Thats down to carrying extra weight from all the sandwiches and chocolate and other crap that you end up buying in there as well.
Here's a little calculation. Say you worked 46 weeks per year and put £60 per week in your van......that would come to £2760.00. 3p per litre of £1.40 is roughly 2.1%. So you would save about £58 per year. It's a saving but not one I'd get excited about. The best fuel saving I made was when my racking collapsed early in the year and I gutted out the back and stopped carrying stuff I didn't really need ......van feels so much lighter too!
Checked my tyre pressures yesterday and got a fright how low they were ( cold weather?? or aint been checked in months more like it ) Worth checking for fuel saving.
Finaly got round to putting air in my tyre was running round with 16 psi in all I could think about was the miles of fuel I've lost
I have to be honest I check my tyre pressures visually in that if one looks a bit flatter than the others. No excuse seeing as I have a compressor and an inflator.
I just have a memory like a gold fish every time I get out the van and saw it a bit flat Its said to myself I must pump it up then forget but to be fair to myself it was only flat on the bottom of tyre
Swap em for solid tyres, they will save you even more, and no need to check the pressure. Oh, and get yourself a back brace, its gonna be a bumpy ride
