ive got a job where they have a free standing bath on legs with carpet down at the moment, ive got to remove the carpet and lay ply followed by cushion vinyl.is this possible without removing the bath?never done one before or removed a bath either so hoping it can be done in situ.

    Yes mate, easy.
Take block of wood and place under the bath, in the middle.
Take a grinder with a metal blade, and grind off the legs.
Fit vinyl as usual, then, using a car jack, lift the bath up slightly.
Weld the legs back on, remove the block of wood, and HEY PRESTO ! the job is done

Legs should be bolted on from underneath.
Is there a valve on the pipes so that you can turn with a flat screwdriver then using a spanner undo from above the valve, then undo waste pipe.. don't forget to open taps to let water out after turning valves off, oh yeah and don't undo the waste pipe till you've done that. Otherwise it's going to be spillage time. LOl

Personally I would ask customer to sort a plumber out or the legs get cut round I don't like playing with water

Not under a freestanding bath its not ! No matter how good you are ! And if you cut around the feet you have joins that are a mightmare to seal / weld underneath the bath .

Is it just me or is anybody else thinking ' why are you as a floorlayer even considering getting involved in removing the bath'!! If the customer wants the flooring and plywood to go under the bath, tell them to get a plumber to remove the bath !!

If this was the other way round and a plumber fitted the flooring after removing the bath, some people on here would have a baby !! Plumbers do plumbing and floorlayers do flooring .

The way I see it is:

bath removed ...... quick easy quality job
bath in-situ .........long difficult rough job

If you consider removing it yourself check the fitting will reach afterwards .....best get a plumber methinks

to be honest it makes life easier if you turn up onsite and theres crap everywhere what do you do? wait for the labourers to clear it or clear it yourself so you can get on with the job.same thing really with the bath its not to difficult to remove same as a bog the only thing is if it leaks

    I have, I have, I definitely have!
....not heard of one that can lift a bath so you can fit underneath without joins though, which I think was the point of the original post.
