Left school at 16 in 1978, after failing most of my o levels except carpentry, (spent too much time watching the 78 world cup instead of revising) So, thought I'd try and get an apprenticeship as a carpenter. Went to the local Job centre that sent me to a local Carpet shop that was apparently advertising for a apprentice carpenter, I thought it a bit odd but went fot the interview anyway. The job centre had mis-spelt the ad and they were looking for a carpet fitting apprentice. Thought I might as well do the trial week, got offered the job so thought I would take it until I found something better. Nearly 35 years later, still looking:cry:.Anyway, went self employed in 81, doing work for Allied, and various other shops around Bristol. Hated the way they dealt with their customers, which just seemed to get worse over the years, so started a mobile service in 91, and only ever fitted what I've sold since, mainly domestic, middle of the road carpets and vinyl's with the odd laminate. I like to think I offer a good professional service, and since 90% of my customers are recommendations or repeat business, most people seem to like the service I provide. Although after looking through some posts on this Forum it seems I'm not qualified to fit Didn't even know there was an NVQ in carpet fitting!!
Not so much of the old Can still do an 9x5m through lounge in 100% wool on me todd;-) (this mornings job) nearly killed me though
