Hi. I'm really hoping someone here can give me some advice. We have just bought a 1930s house and, as we love stripped wood floors, despite being on an extremely tight budget, we got quotes in from a few companies and asked one to sand and varnish the upstairs ready for us to move in next week. They only spent a few house on the floors the first day and told me they'd be back the next day to finish them. At this point - just sanded, they looked great. The guys hadn't turned up by 9.15am the next day - despite assuring me they'd be starting at 8am and they'd gone again before 1pm but I didn't really mind as they said it was all finished. When i went to see the floors last night, there were really big patchy areas in both bedrooms - where it looks as though the varnish hasn't seeped into the wood. I emailed them straightaway including photos of these areas and asked what we could do to rectify the problem. They have just rung, claiming that something has previously been spilt on the boards (it seems strange as it's in 2 different areas in 2 rooms but exactly the same effect) and that nothing can be done. As he put it "I could sand the boards down to wafer thin and they'd still be the same". I explained that, when we've spent all our money on this and are now left with floors which we'll only have to cover, we're really not happy. His response was that this is "really common". Is it? Is there really nothing they culd do? Please give me some advice as I have no more money for rugs/ carpets and feel really unhappy that we've paid so mUch for such a poor finish. Thanks!
is it possible they have left a puddle of seal? coz they don't mention the fact that it's had a coloured stain put on it, and if it had contamination then would the area not have rough feel/texture to it
Use rugs , these will allow you to help in finding good look of your home and be the room as the one which makes you happy. If these are used before the damage of wood will be minimized totally.
