We've just had a multi million pounds hospital opened a couple weeks ago and the Karndean is lifting everywhere due to wet concrete. How can a flooring contractor make that sort of mistake on a contract which must be worth 100's of thousands!
Be surprised if a flooring firm doing a massive contract didn't check the slab for damp. Maybe a dpm has failed.
Easy, main contractor is told he needs a liquid dpm. He wont pay. A disclaimer is signed, floor is fitted. Then the problems begin. I have seen it happen, a lot.
deadlines are the issue mate Well thats the way i understand it anyways lol You can get hit with MASSIVE late deadline fines Sometimes its cheaper to get it down and fix afterwards
Same thing happened at Liverpool sports bar. It got uplifted re-screeded relaid in 3 days and was done at easter. all coming up again now. My way of doing it would of took 6 days with a dpm. They said no.
Just had a similar thing happen to me . About 2 weeks ago, I asked Ardex to do a site survey, which they did , and they came back with an RH of 89%. The builder effectively called them liars and insisted that the floor must be dry and the only reason Ardex got a figure so high was so they could sell more DPM when it wasn't needed !! We had a site meeting between myself, the builder and the customer . I said if the builder could confirm his qualifications, in writing , to over rule Ardex, I would accept his statement, providing that the builder would then pick up the bill WHEN it failed. The customer thought this was a reasonable request and agreed with me. The builder then declined and we are first coat screeding on tuesday and DPM on wednesday with a finish coat when everything is dried !! Barrack room lawyers my Dad used to call 'em Phil
Company I used to work for lost a new school job 4000 sq metres of amtico in corridors and vinyl and carpet tiles in classrooms because the company who won it was £21 k cheaper the reason why because no dpm being used that was 2 years ago and this summer its all being ripped up and redone
we see this every day. Problem is most get away with it until a job fails and then the blame gets shoved onto the flooring installer. The flooring installer has done the job knowing it is wrong to do so, so tough luck. Until more fitters start walking away then this trend wont change. There is always some muppet that will do the job.
Would be nice for FBall, Ardex and Mapei caught up with Uzin and made something similar to L3 Gold now that's fast and cheaper than the epoxy systems around now. Hopefully Uzin will be able to bring up the RH from 90% to 98%+ with some kind of additive soon will make it the best system for all jobs.
