I am looking to do a fit only job (45 m2) that requires 18 mm ply over joists and under floor heating and then full sick down unfinished 15mm engineered single plank oak. My concern is that the ply has been left covered, but outside. The planks are showing a 8/9% reading on the protimeter. The ply outside is showing readings of up to 16%. Some ply was brought in from outside yesterday in readiness for laying. Various readings on this vary from 11 to 14% so it would appear to be drying out? My concern is how long it should take to reach equilibrium and is it better to take the reading by inserting the pins in the face of the board or in the side of the board - which seems to give a higher reading? All the boards are now inside the property.
I doht know how long it would take to dry out but if it was me and they were left outside I wouldnt be laying them
same here mate, although test every week or so might take a fortnight or so and testing either way will do but on the face will be fine
concur fully with Tark & Bourny, the boards that've been left outside need to be steered clear of - isist on new marine ply to BS standards then go for it...
Wickes John? Cost loads there. Better going to a builders yard and seeing what ply them have. Where do you get your 6 an 9mm from?
I usually get all my ply from Wickes Daz and yes it is expensive but I know I get a good product with no problems (so far)! Can you suggest anywhere else - I need it tomorrow but the job is in West Kirby.
There is a travis in Hoylake John. Next town to west Kirby. I'm going there in morning to get 8 sheets 9mm tomorrow. Not brought any 18mm from there though so can't say what it's like.
The job is still ongoing Daz. Turning out to be a bit of nightmare - 3 visits this week and at least 2 next week! Do you do B&B?
