What number do you have the welder on when welding corners I was using my 110v on Friday and had it 6 like I do on the 240v but I burnt the sheet. So put it down to 4.5 an was ok. Another thing my transformer is a heavy one an very old. Going to buy a new one. Does anyone know if you can get a lighter smaller one?
every welder is dif mate Mines normally 5.5-6 on the flats and 4-4.5 on the corners etc as they take longer and are waay easier to burn as you have to take your time etc
I've got 2 transformers a 2x15a socket 3ka and a simgle socket small light 1.2kva while they both work with a welder you find if you have to weld for more than about 20 minutes the small tranny will overheat and cut out.
3.5 on the corners and 4 on main joins i weld slowly and it works for me, I always do a test weld or 2 on a scrap piece first.
6-7 depending on what im welding on my 110v welder, In screwfix daz they have a little 1.5kva box for £62 it runs everything of mine with no problems (big sander, chop saw, drills etc) and weights less than a bag of rapid.
I use my 110 welder on 4.5 for flat and coved mitres. It was how I was taught and have learnt to work the speed of the gun that way. I certainly suggest a lower speed as if the weld does not stick then you can turn the welder up, but a welder too high can burn the vinyl and you have to spent a lot of time rectifying the eye sore!
Don't do much of this stuff but do a bit of flat lay and welding. Always hire or borrow my mates welder and it takes ages to get it right! I find I either burn it or I go to cut the weld off and its only welded the small gap. Should you cut the weld off when its warm or leave it to cool right down? Also the first bits a right pain to get held I always find it takes a couple mil before it sticks??
Should be left to cool, before you trim it. When you start off, if you get a bit of heat on the sheet first, then push the weld rod in with your left hand, behind the speed weld, you might find it easier. Grooving helps too.
Vinyl will always shrink the weld if welded correctly will hold it together, if cut off to soon the weld will dish but never had it shrink from cutting off to hot, how did they show you weld shrinking ?
the trainer heated it and cut it straight away, did it by accident his face was a picture though it's the only time i've ever seen it happen though
