Hello lads ive been roped into doing a job for a customer. Its a solid wood floor rip up of about 8m2 in total . The wood is glued down on top of a latex screed. Its random plank and 18mm thick, 152mm wide. The wood has been damaged so customer wants it replacing and butting up to existing wood thats down. Its basically half of a room. Whats the best way to get it up ? I was thinking circular saw set to correct depth and chisel bit in hammer drill. The circular wont go right to the edge so any ideas how to continue the cut right to the edge ? Im going to re screed and spike roll , any ideas how to get the screed perfectly level with the existing thats down. Cheers in advance to all replies.I would normally back door this job but quiet times and all that, bills have to be paid.
Depending on the make I would imagine the screed will just come up with the wood and the adhesive. I had a similar job a couple of weeks ago. I used the Festool to cut through a couple of boards and then it was brute force and a lot of sweating (in the end I just had to give my lad a hand) to get the rest up. I wouldn't use a latex screed (except possibly Tradeplan) and I think if I were doing it I would get the whole lot up and do it properly in one go. You might have problems later.
As flooringman said the screed should lift with the adhesive Use the circular saw as you said but where it stops short of wall cut at right angles to your cut, this should leave a few inches of wood along the wall these will be easy to pop out once the centre has being lifted. Chisel will probably not work that well, using your saw take out one row of wood then make some wedge’s, these will lift floor and keep it off adhesive so you can lift out when centre is up lift small bits around edge I have used this way in the past hope it helps still a lot of effort
