Hi All, Looking at getting a kitchen, utility, wc and hallway floor in LVT, it is a chipboard base so will need to be ply'd, we really like the look of karndean van gogh country oak after getting several samples from there showroom, I have a few polyflor samples and must say one of the colonia range looks nice too, however from looking at prices on the net, the van gogh is more than double. Would I notice this difference ? are there any other makes that are similar ? Do you think using the same person to fit the ply, buy the product nd fit it is better than me buying the prosuct etc? regards James
Yes thats what I was thinking, It all comes down to cost I suppose. but if I had someone else ply it and the fitter was not happy with it, thats only going to cost more to sort out etc. cheers
Ask your fitter if he supplies as well, don't automatically think that the product will be cheaper 'on the internet'. Even if it is slightly more expensive, at least you will have peace of mind that it's the genuine product, a lot of fitters won't guarantee something bought online as there are a lot of 'seconds' being sold as new. Also, there are other manufacturers of tiles that are better than Karndean, try Project Floors. Where are you based, perhaps someone on here is near to you and could help you out.
agree with all of the above ,get yourself a local fitter ,look on the find a fitter area on this forum for one near you. also instead of karndean try either mfloor or vusta (luvanto) lvt both great products and a lot less on price. dont go penny pinching on a quality job it WILL come back to haunt you.
Have a look at the Lifestyle Emporium Lvt plank, it's same dimensions and wear layer as Van Gogh but lot's cheaper. Always deal with one store or fitter.
mflor/project floors/ Vusta (luvanto)/LG Hausys/Tarkett ID 55 are all better quality than Karndean and keener prices on them none of these can be bought online you need to find a quality local independant retailer, it needs either ply then feather finish or ply then full 3mm screed over top (2nd option is the dearest although more prefered method to prepare the subfloor).
the quality control is much higher at the moment, also mflor is manufactured to the highest standard i've seen since the old karndean 10yrs+ ago.
I wouldn't say that at all. Some of karndeans ranges are great. I think the quality of lg isn't great myself after laying alot of it a couple years ago. And it's not selling well in the uk.
i found the lg gear quite dusty, full of chalk etc when cutting, wasnt overly impressed with it, so dropped it.. I personally havnt had many issues at all with K/dean ranges, but am finding folk want a k/dean floor without the k/dean price lol
yep for similar money seems a no brainer to me, although i prefer to sell mflor and project floors at the minute yet to get any issues with them
Couldnt agree more fitted on one job over 600 packs of knight-tile and id go with 10% faulty or second boards and the wear layer is next to non existent, scratches for fun, as far as im concerned there is no difference quality wise between knight tile and colonia other than the formers price being higher karndean might have the technically thicker wear layer but it aint up to much, would much rather sell camaro as imho its the better product.
