woven carpets should have the minimum of architectural gripper on the width. For the price of the stuff and the extra time cutting it you are better of double banking the gripper.

Me personally i double bank length and width on woven carpets and i double bank all rooms over 5 meters no matter what carpet im installing. Just to add you should double bank your gripper when power stretching so that will be over 5 meters then 1!

O and to add, brintons etc (woven carpets) state that architectural gripper or better still double banking should happen on the width as when the carpet is cleaned it will shrink on the width and not the length . SO you may fit carpet fine on single gripper but when cleaned the extra pressure will pull gripper up.

You as the installer needs to make sure you allow for the carpets cleaning process. Just keep that in mind when only installing a single bank of gripper. ;)

    More than you think.

but what you should ask is - how many fitters can be bothered to use it ? :D

Matt The foot operated stretcher you showed us when on the lvt course looks like a far more practical/quicker way of mechanically stretching a carpet. Does that one qualify as a power stretcher?

    De-pendant on cleaning method.

But if you clean carpets yourself you will know that say brintons bell twist will shrink on the width on horror of just knowing its about to be cleaned :D

Hence that Brintons say architectural gripper should be used.

It's up to the fitter, but as you get older the power stretcher is a good tool to have, and a helping hand to set it up.lol

Haven't read any of the previous pages but i swear by my power stretcher, i even often use it in smaller rooms especially if i've had to bend the carpet to get it into the room.
You get a much better result and it saves on the knees, and my kicking knee is the only good one i've got left!

    thread revival!

I managed to find the british standards on the internet the other week but now i cant. If all actionbacks should be power stretched("even a 2x2") then stay tacking a 8x4 isnt really going to work unless its a felt back? Ive started using my power stretcher for everything the last couple of weeks and am getting by with it barely any slower than a kicker, but with a far better result and less effort with the knees.
