So now been on my own 5 months and it's not been to bad but have any of you got ideas you can give me about drumming up more work. Done the website , free listings , google places. Van to be sign written next month when I get a bit of cash together. Any other ideas ? Cheers lads. Oh and signed up to rated people and had 2 good jobs out of it. Also thinking about checkatrade and trust a trader.
Get some flyers made up I had 5000 for about £25 when uour out and about if you see any scaffolding on a house for extension drop one through door if home owners are there even better ring bell and have quick word, im getting a4 brochurs made few pics of jobs a little write up about company training experience bla bla bla and take them in person to any developer / builder / interior designer that do the nice big houses, try and get in contact with as many plumbers as poss as there always damaging floors to get to pipes below, dont forget about letting agents, also a removale van means new home owners leaflet through the door works,
Hi dannyboy when I started on my own i got some printed flyers made up ,they looked impressive with pics of jobs on and stuff. I then used to go to companies and give them out. Plus keep them in ya van and where ever you are working you can just do five minutes posting a few through in the area.
I know the pikeys use the ones that say I just did a job in your area but get those done and when you do a job in a street just put through 10-20 doors in the street. I always stop if I see any building van/loft extension/etc van outside a house cos it's always a chance of a job. I go to the dentist and ask them if they need new floors, schools, I've asked people in places like garden centres, just the people on the tills. Quick conversation, hand the business card over. It costs nothing and gives you a chance. See someone on facebook is buying a house, get straight in and offer your services. Food luck.
I have a mate who has a 1m x 1m perspex sign made up and offers customers £10 discount for every day hes on a job if he can screw it to front fence its amazing how many people agree when they think there getting a discount and he gets quite a bit of work from custoners neighbours from it, will be something ill be looking into soon
Do a customer recommendation scheme, for any customer who recommends me to a friend or family member and I get the job the recommendee gets a £25 m and s voucher, looks better than a £25 cash and you usually get told oh so and so recommended you then you know to add £25 to your bill, everyones a winner.
Not a bad idea. I couldn't think of how a frames could work for our trade as we're not around for long enough like painters, builders etc.
Get your van done smart with a picture maybe, always do a good job and be on time for the measure. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Word of mouth is king, Good Luck
I found flyers to be a bit of a dead end, most people just bin them.Get yourself an ad in all the local circulars, parish newsletters etc, people tend to have more faith in that kind of thing, it has a more local personal feel if you know what I mean.
That's the gold standard of advertising, that is. ....."a local shop for local people, we'll have no trouble here" They'll be queuing around the block.
