After recording pencil lines of the perimeter skirting and sanitary ware – toilet/pedestal basin ect with a scribing block & pencil on to felt paper then back marked onto vinyl : is anyone aware of an alternative method to cut out the waste for toilet pan & pedestal. Would using dividers to score the surface of the vinyl prior to using a knife work? Suggestions appreciated.

Mate, that's a hell of a lot of messing about, why not just fit the vinyl as you would carpet, cutting by hand as you go?

Personally I cut vinyl with a hook blade, lots of practice so you dont cut too short or cut the skirting. there are some tools to cut vinyl aswell.if its really tricky then template with paper felt and transfer back over and cut.

Hook blade, can use both hands for the bits you cant reach. All it takes is practise. Templating is'nt as risk free as people might think, and its double the work load.

Templating is good for lino work though.
And material like Poly XL when it`s the middle of winter, and there is no heating on.

Cushion floor, flop it in and hook away.

When cutting in the template paper around the pan/pedestal makes sure you cut paper as you would vinyl(nice and tight) and then pencil onto vinyl allowing a bit for trimming in once in position.

do you all centralize the pattern on cushion flooring on all 4 walls or do most of you get one wall straight and not worry about how the pattern drops else where?

    Tbh mate
Until i started doing LVTs i always used to just hook off a wall and go from there
still do if there aint no pattern mind you lol
I remember last yr i got an email from a customer who was so chuffed that i'd centrailsed the pattern of the little toilet.
I was thinking to myself whilst reading it, 'its just a bit of vinyl mate'
But nice when the customer realises what amount of work we've actually done for them

Depends on the room shape/pattern/layout, generally give the customer the option of what looks best for them, (they are the ones who have to live with it) so it may not always be what I would consider the best/right way, but will try to do what the client wants.

9 out of 10 times, I get the longest wall straight, and just go off that.
Most of our domestic work is To Let flats, and basically, no-one cares.
Its mostly just swirly vinyl anyway, and within a week it will be fooked.
