The brands/carpets I've come across so far are:

    Penthouse - Vermont 60 oz
    Cormar - Town & Country
    Westex - Ultima twist
    Kingsmead - don't know the name, but it's a 60 oz.

Are there any 'better' carpets in the price range that I've missed? If not, which should I go for or avoid from this list?

    Advice appreciated!

    Thanks

I wouldn't bother buying anything from penthouse. Had huge problems with there carpets wearing fast. They said it was fine. 2 different independent inspectors said it was faulty carpets. This was on more than one job and they haven't done much about it. We stopped sellin there stuff.

I'd go with westex, found them to be really good if anything is wrong.

Yeah we done a fair bit with them it was jus the way dealt with the complaints. Was about two years ago now. The main one was 200sqm job. I have the 75oz in my bedroom and it doesn't look great.

Another local shop to us sold there stuff for 30years they said but stopped after they wouldn't deal with a complaint and a small 4x4 piece.

Otherwise it was great value for money.

Cormar town & country is good and nearly twice as thick as the Kingsmead product.

Are you buying from a shop for 25 Internet for 25, from a mate? Those will change massively whatyo can get for your money. T+c from cormar. 60 oz single ply ithink. I've fitted some looks nice, feels thick but cormar do have a lot of problems with the back delaminating. I fit lots of it. Manx do a twin ply carpet, New Zealand wool 40 and 50oz called metropolitan. 10th gauge. victoria radiance is 50 oz. Brockway and victoria have the different backing which doesn't fall apart! Brockway vogue 80 wool 20 nylon and twin ply, nice carpet. Kinsmead artwork 45and 60 oz. New Zealand wool, single ply I think.

I'm hoping to buy from a local independent shop really, but only been into a couple of shops to get an idea of what's about. I got the £25 price based on the Cormar Town & Country 60 oz range, but looks like Westex will cost a bit more than that.

Thanks for the info about which have single ply and double backing.

I'm really being put off Cormar at the moment hearing about the de-laminating issue. I'm getting recommendations for Penthouse or Westex, and possibly going for a 50oz rather than 60oz due to the shorter pile hence less likely for pile reversal to be noticeable.

Thanks again to all that have offered advice. Please keep it coming if you feel there is more info I should take into account :)

Where are you based zed? A shop will always be way more than the net but the shops give you advice, service, measures etc, someone to turn to if there is a problem. Net is good if yo want tight prices but nothing else.

Don't get me wrong I like cormar, they have arrange for everything, I fit loads but I also see problems with their backing. Not just on Apollo either. Have a look at brockway jubilee. Lots of colours as well.

I'm based in Middlesbrough, North-East England. Just been to a local shop and their Town & Country is £35 Sq M, where-as it's £25 online. I'd much rather go to a local shop and pay a little more for the advice and service, but £10 for every meter is quite a difference.

How wide-spread is this de-laminating issue across the Cormar range, and does it also affect other brands too? I some Cormar samples and the backing, which feels like a plastic mesh, is peeling off them. Is this what we mean by the de-laminiating issue?

There a a number of independent carpet shops that I need to visit, and see where we go from there. I'll check out the Brockway Jubilee too!

To be fair I've not had a Cormar de laminate on me before. Use to get it with Furlongs on just about every cut and I use Cormar carpets nearly every week! I have heard a few people say they had issues with it tho.
